The visual equivalent of Easy Listening, particularly applicable to the dirge like “dramas” that are shown on British TV on Sunday nights, e.g. “Darling Buds of May”, “Heartbeat”, “Monarch of the Glen”, “Where the Heart Is”. Made with the obvious intention of not showing anything that might remotely offend elderly Daily Mail readers, nothing of the slightest interest ever happens in them – rushing to the shop to buy some cough sweets is their idea of a “cliffhanger ending”. The only thing to be said in their favour is that they clearly demonstrate why Catherine Zeta Jones buggered off to Hollywood at the first opportunity.
