Mirror
MirrorIn darkness, I am darkness
My world exists only in the light
When you are there to watch me
You see me, I copy you
But have no substance you can touch
I imitate your uncertainty
In light, inescapable
Always ready to perform, yet
Only I see your slipped mask
You lie, yet I am your truth
My flat prison is your honesty
A never-ending charade
To the man who stares
Do I lead, or do I follow?
To stay too long I lose my meaning
You shatter me, I am not free
Like light and dark
We cannot both exist together
Elementary Evaluation
You see that red button on the desk – I thought it was the ejector seat.
It turns out it was the self-destruct button.
What you think sometimes is an ripe branch unnoticeably turns into a viper
A flood of words will desert Abel for Cain
The notes are all flat, out of time, out of tune
The syncopation is terrible – Why do you bother wasting my time?
Those colours are the same. The fine detail is missed.
I have lost the meaning of this elaborate piece
There is hope.
Tomorrow’s mix of chemicals will be different to today
Today I am endothermic. Tomorrow maybe not so
I can think of no redeeming feature of this day
No thought, no action, no phrase.
