Meh

Been listening to Portishead – Three. It’s excellent. It’s so raw — slightly out of time, distorted, cut off. It’s as if we’re seeing shyness, awkwardness, an intense fear of rejection, all the paranoia in three individuals made manifest.

A fleeting glimpse into the minds of people sitting on the edge of madness and brilliance. Thrown out into the open in all its imperfect glory, landing in the shapes of song that touches something nothing else seems to. Portishead are back and Portishead want you to feel their pain.

They’ve not released anything in 10 years, but they haven’t dated because they simplyare — they created a genre, it was merely that no-one else happened to inhabit it. They’ve simply changed the way they sound but not out of a feeling that they need to, just the natural evolution of what they were doing. You’ll hear ancient synthesizers, drum pads, raw guitar, all combined in a unique way that could only be Portishead.

From the bleakly loose drum pads, roaring synth and painful lyrics of Machine Gun through to the gorgeously simple Ukelele plucked Deep Water it’s an album that’ll grow and grow until it screams in your mind every waking hour.

I am in love again.

In other news, bought a pot plant.

Saw the saviour,

And the saviour come my way

I thought I’d see it

In the cold light of day

But now i realize, that I’m only for me

If only i could see, return myself to me,

And recognize the poison in my heart

There is no other place, no one else i face

The remedy will break with how i feel

Here am I reflecting

What more can I say

For I am guilty

For the voice that I have made

Too scared to sacrifice a choice

Chosen for me

If only I could see

Return myself to me

And recognize the poison in my heart

There is no other place

No one else I face

The remedy will agree with how i feel
